  1. Yes I remember the Thompson family very well and their dog (run the gauntlet dog) Jip. Mr Thompson now being long gone, I do see Anne and her mum down town, I don’t know were Anne is living but Mrs Thompson now has a bungalow on Roseworth as my mam does. Mr Hoy passing the window of our house daily whilst going to the shops and waving just in case someone was looking as invariably there was, this sight never changed over the years I came home on leave over a twenty year plus period, part of feeling at home. Roy.

  2. I remember both Roy and John from Repton Avenue. Everyone seemed to know and help each other then. I remember how kind everyone was when my mother was so ill. I remember playing out for hours with everyone and cycling to school at Grangefield Grammar. Do you remember Billy”s bus that used to come around with the groceries and the bread van with the best iced buns I ever tasted and of course the penny a ride man. Do you remember the Thompsons from number 19 and their ginger dog, Jip, which used to terrify me. I also enjoy reading the comments on this site and recognise quite a few names from the past and wonder what everyone is doing now.

  3. Hi roy parkin,I went out with shirley thorpe when we were kids .I always called your mam aunty pat.I once met her in benidorm whilst we were both on holiday .give my love ,.cheers//

  4. HI John Macalees, yes I do remember your family, more so your mam and Allan who was more my age, you were one of the big boys to be left alone. I must have been really small as when the Thorpe family lived at No 23 I was still in short pants when they moved over the road in to the four bed house. Don’t you remember the catamaran Ronnie Thorpe (the father) built in his back garden; he had to hire a great crane to get it out on to a wagon and take it down to the South Gare. It was quite a big occasion with newspapers and Tyne Tees TV showing a great interest. The boat not being insured was smashed up in a storm whilst at its mooring, never being sailed. As far as Benedorm goes my mam and dad went there for years even before charter flights, they went on the coach from Stockton. I wonder if she knew you were out there and your daughter and son in law ran the Rovers Return, wait till I tell her she will be tickled pink. It was only last month that she sold the house in Repton Ave, being there since they were built and being the last of the old crowd, now living in a bungalow just past the library on Roseworth. I also remember the Buttle family at no 8; their dad was a bus driver and used to take us to Stockton baths from Roseworth Sec, a bit of a joker and Veronica Copeland (Hoy) at no 17. Roy.

  5. HI ROY PARKIN,DID YOU LIVE IN REPTON AVE ON ROSEWORTH.I REMEMBER A PAT PARKIN A FRIEND OF MY MOTHER .WE LIVED IN NUMBER 15 ,I THINK PAT LIVED IN 25 NEXT DOOR TO A FAMILY CALLED THORPE??

  6. Finding this site has taken over all my spare time, I have looked around the country on Google and can’t find a site like it. Being away so long from the area has pushed all my memories right to the back of my mind, so far back that prior to me finding this site and spending many hours reading the ‘Blogs’ you could ask me many things which went straight over my head, but now it is like an adrenalin rush putting my thoughts to paper in case I might forget once again, I don’t think I will forget again, just nice to write them down for my children and others to read. Roy. Can my e-mail address please be left in my blogs please

  7. Rachel Mason is right, this is the old police station on Church Road. It was later taken over by Stockton Housing and was used as the rent office amongst other things. The building is still there, next door to Splash and across from the parish church, library and municipal buildings.

  8. This is not Wellington Street at all but Church Road, the opposite side to the Parish Church showing the buildings that are now offices for part of Stockton Borough Council but which once housed the Police Station.

  9. I don’t think it is the Baptist Tabernacle. Looks a bit more like the old Police Station (No 16) Church Road.
