  1. My mother Frances (nee) Dunill worked as an usherette at the Cinema from the late 40’s to late 50’s. She said the manager had a hook in place of one of his hands and how it used to frighten them and also how the girls used to take photos of the screen when the heartthrob of the day appeared! She has many happy memories of working there.

  2. Most of these shop”s never changed hand”s for many years, I remember a Maynards sweet shop next to the Cinema, which later was called the Essoldo, you entered by a long passage off the high street.
