Ropners shipyard(1894-1928) on the left with a large steam ship moored at Thornaby. A ferry rowing boat is crossing the River Tees from near the Ship Inn at Thornaby to Stockton. The shipyard was owned by Henry Markham in 1828, then Pearse & Co., then Pearse & Lockwood in 1856, then Ropners, closing 1928. Picture dated c1900
