  1. GERRARD HARTLEY- I REMEMBER GOING FOR A JOB INTERVIEW AT S&H MARKETING KIRBY, THERE WERE
ABOUT 10 OF US IN ONE OF THE UPSTAIRS ROOMS, ONE OF THE QUESTIONS WE WERE ASKED WAS, “HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT SELLING ONE OF OUR KIRBY VACUUM MACHINES?”. I SAID I WOULD SELL ONE TO MY MOTHER FIRST, THE BOSS SAID “THATS A VERY GOOD ANSWER, BUT YOU WOULDN’T HAVE TO SELL HER ONE BECAUSE EACH ONE OF YOU WILL GET A FREE ONE IF YOU GET THE JOB!”. I DID GET A JOB BUT AFTER GETTING BACK HOME I CHANGED MY MIND!

  2. No 72 is the house I grew up in, my mam was the landlady for years as it was a lodging house from the 50s. She lived here till she died in 2006. In the 60s to early 70s the front right room was pools office and we used to keep a pony on the field out the back in the 70s as we had a stable in the garage with a hayloft. Next door at 74 was Mrs Walsh a wonderful woman who was married to the late Dr Walsh. When this photograph was taken S&H marketing was Kirby vacuum cleaners they used to sing every morning for 20 mins as a motivational aid.
