Stockton Racecourse was situated on the banks of the River Tees. The first meeting took place in September 1855 and the last meeting was in June 1981. These views show the side and back of the old stands, the gantrey from the stewards room to the grandstand and the changing room/stewards office. I lived in Acklam Rd, Thornaby overlooking Stockton racecourse in the 1980s and was fortunate enough to take a video of it in September 1989 shortly before its sad demise. Oddly my future French mother-in-law met her husband in Chantilly before they moved to England … He, Wilfred Rust, was a jockey from Stockton of all places!

andrew is there any chance of seeing your video of the racecourse? i remember it being on the old itv seven on world of sport. is it possible to get a copy?
