This is a very interesting site and I love the history. I was brought to Stockton in 1935/6 (my memory is a little vague on the date) from Surrey where I was born. My first school in 1939 was Oxbridge. I started school and after about a week we had two weeks holiday while they built brick air raid shelters. I thought this was a good idea. The head mistress was a Miss or Mrs Pringle. I was there until I was 7 when I went to Trinity in Yarm Lane with Mr Hewit as head master and a Miss Allen in first grade. We also had a Pop Andrews who went everywhere with a long cane and he used it constantly (bring back those days). After that I went to Richard Hind where my school rep[orts said I could do better in everything except French. Johnny Rosser was the Head. I left there in 1949 the day of my last exam for the Oxford School Cert and the next day I was on a boat going to Australia. I enjoyed my schools although I have lost track of friends at Richard Hind particularly – except one who I keep running into at the local shops (Hartburn). Such is life.

They were bred tough in Stockton in the 50″s. Short trousers and no jacket at the Christmas puppet show.
