The Flour Mill was a construction of reinforced concrete walls which were all “Honeycombed”. When it was demolished there was a “Penalty Clause” which stated that it had to fall where it stood and no parts had to go into the River. Because of the Honeycombing and the Penalty Clause it made the job much harder. I was present at each attempt and I would say that it took 4 or 5 times to demolish it.
I believe that the concrete section of the mill was one of the very first reinforced concrete buildings in the world and was demolished in the late 1960″s? It took two attempts which I witnesed myself as a child with my dad.
