  1. I remember Frank Showell from my days at Oxbridge Lane School,he was sports master.I was a member of the football team which won the Salmon Cup,beating Richard Hind 1-0.I actually scored the winning goal.I was also a member of the Eagle bot”s club which he ran,it was very successful, having champion”s in things as diverse as table tennis, running and, believe it or not, draughts. The draughts champion was called Ray Cook.I have a photo of the football team showing Mr.Showell which I will post later.

  2. Frank Showell was my uncle and I would like to hear more about him or view other photos if they are available. I was never at a school of his but lived in Nunthorpe during WWII and visited him as a very small child. Thanks.

  3. David Ferguson – I too remember the headmaster as Mr Redhead. My brother Jeff must have a touch of senility – it happens in the younger twin! Cheers, John.!

  4. Jeff & David I left Ragworth Primary in 1957 so I must have started there in 51 or 52. I can only remember Mr Redhead as the headmaster in the time I was there. I also remember all the teachers David mentions.

  5. Benny, if you remember Mr Redhead as a man with a very red bald head I”m sure it would be the same man. Mr Dodds, I vaguely recall, was a shortish man with dark hair. Other than that I hope someone else can be more helpful to you.

  6. A Mr Harry Redhead taught me at Newham Grange School in early fifties, teaching English, is this the same teacher, and Mr Dodds was also a teacher at Newham Grange at the same time. Does anyone know if they are the same teachers. Mr Redhead used to live in a house very near to the Stockton cricket ground, where he often visited.

  7. Jeff And David I also went to Ragworth Primary I left Summer 1957 so I must have started 51 or 52 the only headmaster I can remember being there is Mr Redhead. The school was very new at the time as was Ragworth Estate I lived in Dundee Ave (now demolished) so I didnt have far to go to school. David, Seeing those teachers names brings back many memories.

  8. I attended Ragworth County Primary School from 1954 to 1960. I can only remember Mr Redhead as the appropriately named headmaster. Was Mr Showell his predecessor Jeff? The other teachers I can still recall from Ragworth were – Mrs New or News,Mrs Summers, Mrs Atkinson, Mrs Cochrane, Mr Dodd or Dodds and the illustrious Mr Barnet. Mr Barnet managed to get Gerald Weir, Geoff Muirhead and myself through the 11 plus, quite an achievement for Ragworth.

  9. Mr Showell was the first headmaster of Ragworth Primary School in 1955. My twin brother, John, and I went there. Many years later, nearly 20, I bumped into him in a garage in Norton. “You won”t remember me,” I said. Without hesitation, he replied, “Are you John or Jeff?” They were real headmasters in those days! JS.

  10. Graham Marshall, of Stockton receiving the form prize from the Mayor of Stockton in 1955. Man to the left is Mr Showell the headmaster. (He appears on a staff picture elsewhere in the archive).
