Butterwick Fair The Green 2002. “The Happy Wanderer” Puppets have attended the J.B Fair since its inception in 1987, helping to raise many thousands of pounds. From Diary:- Monday 6th May 2004. A cold N”e wind, but on the Green the occasional sunshine in the arena its warm. 9.15 by car to The Green, Park-up in our usual pitch N.E corner, setting up organ and puppets by 10-00. Inflated slide and Castle to our right and sweet smelling candy-floss stall to the left outer edge of the Green with its rows of novelty, gift and plant stalls. A set of roundabouts and swings is ready. When the Fair is opened 11.00 by Mayor and Mary Butterwick, followed by a display of the “Belaires” Jazz-Band in the main arena. About 12.30 a yellow “Sea-King; helicopter flys low over the Green with the winch-man waving to the crowd below. Afternoon displays by Judo/Karate teams, dog agility ,Morris Men and the highlight a number of pitched battle”s by the Teeside Saxon-Viking re-enactment Group. The cafe in com centre ran out of buns and cakes till supplies arrived from Teesside Park. Thousands there again it seems to get more popular every year.
