Still trying to contact people from class of 1960. Mrs Flintoff commented on the photo so perhaps she can pass on details of the reunion to her husband. Reunion now set for 28th August 2009 at Newtown Community Centre (former school) lease keep the comment relevant to the photograph (some extra detail or history) and avoid addressing it to an individual. Email, postal or web addresses should not be added.
I must have know Sheila Cliff in person after all because she appears in this school photograph from the English Country Dancing Team of 1959. I was part of this team and also the previous year, photo is under search for Newtown School. Newtown won this prestigious competition in 1958 and second or third in 1959 against a large number of schools. The competition was held in Darlington. Again strange how this site works. What an asset it will be when we grow “really” old and memories fade.
I remember Geoff very well from Commondale Avenue, I lived in Glaisdale and was in same class. Non-existent dancing prowess seems to be quite catching as I suffer the same affliction – all the very best to you and Geoff.
My husband Geoff Flintoff was SO pleased I came across these two photos of him in his country dancing days. He wishes someone had posted a photo of the school football team instead as he has been teased quite a bit about his now non-existent dancing prowess!!!
I think that is Maureen Coupe in the centre of the bottom row reading the programme
Good Old Newtown School my favourite teacher was Mrs. Hutchinson and head teacher Mr. Glaswell I lived just up the road near St. Pauls Church Good old days.
Girl at bottom left – Jackie Zucca, boy at bottom right – Alan Davis, boy at far right Geoff Flintoff, boy far right top – David Derbyshire. I remember this night very well and have original photo if digital copies required.
…photographed on the stairs at Eastbourne School, Darlington for the Festival English Country Dance contest there. The girls include Sheila Cliff, Vivienne Mounsey and Elaine Brown, I think: that would be Eric Harris in the centre, and that is me on the left (Ian Black)
