  1. My father was in 608 Squadron and well remembers the “vampires”, trips to Gibraltar and the old Hastings. His name is Eric Davis.

  2. Airman Memorial Thornaby From Diary :- Thursday May 8th 1997 A mixed day of weather rain and sun Standard Bearers of R.A.F Assocation and British Legion at main Guard room as I pass. About 300 waiting on memorial-site. Talk to widow of Canadian pilot, who was stationed here with 20 Squadron flying “Hudson” aircraft. Meet a few 608 “bods”, last seen 1n 1956. The official “Dakota” fly-past was cancelled due to bad weather at base, but just as the R.A.F padre dedicated the memorial a pair of high-flying “Tornado” roared across the in the sight of the bronze skyward looking Airman, unintentional but highly emotional Last Post and Piper with The Airmen standing proud against a sun-shot cloudy sky ended the dedecation
