Daimler CWA6 1944. 91 FPT 468. Brush utility Body. This bus would appear to be decked out to celebrate Salute the Soldier Week at the end of the Second World War. The driver is wearing Home Guard uniform and the white line along the bottom of the bus is to aid visibility in a blackout.
This bus was decorated March 1944 for Salute the Soldier savings week. The driver in uniform was Eddie Stockdale.A bus was also decorated in 1943 for Wings for Victory week. The front round the destination panel was painted white and blue to look like sky and three model aircraft, held with brackets on the front. These models were on loan from the R.A.F. and as a junior clerk I had to go to R.A.F. Thornaby to collect them.I have never seen a photograph of this bus.
A picture of the offside of this Bus with the same crew, appears on page 31,in the excellent Book “Middlesbrough and Stockton” by Philip Battersby, and published by Venture Publications of Derbyshire. According to the original caption in the book, the Bus carries Wartime Grey livery, and carried various Royal Motifs but did not announce any particular occaision, or event. however, on the radiator, there is a cardboard cutout of a soldier, and two royal standard flags, on the front either side of the destination screen
