  1. My mother worked for Pete for a lot of years, it was my mum that found Pete on that dreadful Saturday morning

    • I was in the control room at Stockton Police Office on that morning. It could have been her who telephoned in when I received the call.

  2. The explanation for the ghostly figures is most probably that this photograph was taken using a fairly long exposure with a plate camera. Anything that moved during the exposure will appear blurred to various degrees, depending how quickly they were moving. The three images are probably people moving very quickly. On the road in front of them appears to be a man with a handcart also on the move.

  3. I remember Pete”s. In the early 50s I used to walk from Portrack into town with my mother. Our first stop was Pete”s for a hearty bowl of soup to warm us up before doing the shopping. I seem to remember a high counter with stools. It was here I had my first taste of Pepsi Cola and my first science lesson -if you put sugar in the bottle the Pepsi frothed out of the top!

  4. Now there rings a bell, “Pete”s Snack Bar”. quite correct by todays standards as regards healthy eating, but who could resist those mouth watering bacon sarnies. When I worked on Stockton Corporation Buses, our early stats at 5-00am to collect shift workers and deliver and bring home the night shift. passing Petes the “Duck”dropped off m I parked the bus outside the parish church, when I walked in my bacon sarnie was waiting for me so I wont knock Petes.  In the late 50″s we worked a 48 hour week for around 7 pounds a week.but they were good times.

  5. This photo is in the same vicinity as the photo in the Co-op section of the Co-op fish shop @ 35 High St. Next to that photo it shows Pete”s Snack Bar with a sign pointing to the Public Baths. I”ve seen other references to Pete”s Snack Bar in the “Remember When” section of IC Teesside. The photo in the co-op section gives a great picture of Pete”s. How well I remember after a couple of hours in the Baths going for a penny dip @ Petes. Healthy? No! Great Taste? Yes!
