  1. I would love to see more photos of this area circa 1965-1980 including the fair, Back Mandale Road etc this was my pareants area and would love to see more pictures. Also of St Leonards street as my husband was born there.

  2. Yes definitely Late 70″s I had family that lived on the opposite side ( back Mandale road) and I can remember it being shops on other side for years

  3. I would agree that the picture is later than 1973, my uncle lived at 89 George Street (out of view but on the right going down towards the old fire station & police staion)He moved out in 1973 as part of the compulsory purchase scheme by the council (due to the A66 being planned) the site of the old paper shop on the corner of Mandale Road became a Datsun Dealer (Cleveland Datsun) At least Tillstons is still going strong in Stockton, was it John Tillston who owned it, or is that the son?)

  4. Yes, Geoffrey Smith is correct. Dicken’s Tool & Timber closed their business in July 1967 from those premises and Ken Jackson took over the premises after that and they sold cars from there for a number of Years before they moved to Portrack. That would date the Photograph well into the 1970s

  5. This picture is not from 1960 but much later. Clearance of this side of Mandale Road did not begin until the early/mid 1970s at about the same time as work began on the A66.
