Alan – what a fantastic photo ! This the only photo I have seen showing the old bridge at Stockton, even though it shows it being demolished after the Victoria Bridge was completed. The old bridge was mentioned by Ralph Jackson, Cleveland”s famous 18th C diarist. “5 Oct 1768 – rode along the New Bridge at Stockton which has been passible for Horses and light Carriages a month past, the Battlements are not yet begun with. This Bridge has been upwards of two years in hand by Messrs Corney, Shutt & Nelson (undertakers.” According to Richmond (1868) the stone bridge was widened in 1858.
