St Marys Roman Catholic Church Stockton. The dress of the people in the picture dates its about 1900-1910, the Victorian dresses of the older folk, compared to the more colourful Edwardian. It was once the intention that St Marys would have twin towers, the key stones are visible on the roof-line south of the present main structure, finance prevented this and the north tower was extended, The north end house of the block (left)Wellington House, became St Gerards Convent, which supplied teachers to St Mary”s School, just visible to the rear of the Church

The tower was later extended to its present height.
