I totally agree with you Miss Rice, I was brought up in Cranbourne Terrace and that alley is definately between Hind st and Yarm Rd with Varo Terrace in the distance. You can almost see Frank Flynn”s fishing tackle shop at the end. To the left is the new brick work from the back of the club (trades and labour). On the right hand side just before the telegraph pole is the old police hostel.
I think this is thwe back street behind the big road that joined “Bowzey” Lane and Yarm road, whose name escapes me at the moment. I think it was tarmac”ed later, and was particularly noteworth for its great width. My dad”s parent lived in this street.
UNFORTUNATLY MISS RICE I KNOW THE BACK ALLEY YOU ARE ON ABOUT AND ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN ITS BLOCKED WTH A FLOWERBED. AT THE REAR OF THE TRACY BELL SCHOOL OF DANCING AND THE BLYTHHOLME AND THE POLICE HOSTEL. THIS IS DEFINATELY THE REAR OF THE “BIG BACK” YARM ROAD AND WALTER STREET TAKEN FROM ROKER TERRACE. USED TO HAVE THE DONKEY DERBY UP THERE WHEN WE WERE KIDS.
This looks like the alley between Hind st and Yarm rd, the houses at the bottom look like Varo terrace
THIS IS THE “BIG” BACK ALLY! HOUSES TO THE LEFT ARE WALTER STREET AND TO THE RIGHT ARE YARM ROAD! PIC TOOK AT ALLY AND ROKER TERRACE! I LIVED AT 86 YARM ROAD AND 20 METRES ON THE LEFT IS THE REAR OF WHERE I WAS BROUGHT UP! BOTTOM OF ALLY IS CRANBOURNE TEERACE.
