  1. Harry and Renee Wrangham are my Uncle and Aunt. She is my late mothers younger sister. You were right Mike about being Landlord and Landlady of the Brown Jug at Norton but before taking that position they were Landlord and Landlady of the Leviathan Pub in Middlesbrough near the railway station (nee The Glass Barrel) for a number of years and as a child I used to play on the flat roof and down the cellar with my cousin Wayne. Does anyone remember the dog Snowy who used to like a pint of beer. Sadly Uncle Harry is no longer with us but we still reminisce with Aunty Renee and Wayne about the pub days. Aunt Renee was also a familiar sight on Stockton Market on my cousins stall, Andy Austen (Andy’s ladies wear), for a lot of years alongside Andy’s father Uncle George and Aunty Ivy.

  2. I remember this corner very well as a kid. Harry Wrangham had a wonderful little business. He used to capture his customers by giving them credit to the end of the week! He kept all the records in a little blue book. I remember many times being sent to Harry”s to fetch groceries “on tick”. I used to live in 244 right next door to the Brown Jug.

  3. Bob Irwin – Bob I”d forgotten that Harry had taken the Brown Jug. My last memory of him was when he had a shop down the Boro way somewhere possibly South bank. His son, was as I recall, Wayne. Finally do you remember his shop assisstant Dorothy (Dot) Bailey, her father was caretaker at the town hall.

  4. The shop in the background was in Trent Street and you are right, it was owned by Harry Wrangham. His wife was called Rene (pronounced the French way). After leaving this shop he became the Landlord of the Brown Jug on Norton Road. Just a stones throw away from this photo.

  5. The co-op appears to be on Norton Road and the shop which is off to the right was run, during my youth, by Harry Wrangham. That would be early 1950″s. Across Norton Road was Thomas”s newsagents. My memory of the siting of the co-op is a bit hazy but I can still remember my mother”s divi number.
