How wonderful to see these diesel engine at Thornaby. This takes me back to an earliet time during the 70″s when I also enjoyed a wonderful time there. I was driving along the “Wilderness Road” – as many called it – between Middlesbrough and Thornaby (the old A66) when I heard the distinct sound of an A4 whistle. It was 60007 (4498) Sir Nigel Gresley getting ready for an open day at Thornaby Marshalling Yard on 9 September 1972. Thankfully I had a camera with me and, thanks to my BBC identification, I was allowed in to take some photographs. Maybe I can post one here one day soon.
