Left hand picture shows the sunken level in the Town Square. I remember on Saturday afternoons the council (or somebody) would put on free pop group concerts with local bands – like Johnny Taylor(?) 5 -mostly for the younger kids who couldn”t go to Billingham Arms dances – underage drinking wasn”t “the thing” then, we never got away with it! Also fondly remember the KD club in Station Road, anyone got any pics of that place – previously the Billingham Press Building, but inside was a copy of the Liverpool Cavern club. The club was owned by the Tennant family I think (the builder) and their son Brian was part of the running of it. Saw some great bands there in the early 60″s.
The pictures above appear to be from different decades. My guess is that the colour one is from the mid eighties. A clue might be on the Woolworth”s logo. The monochrome one seems to be from the sixties.
