one thing is for sure , St Cuthberts church had a fine orchard around the back, for us young ones it was a source of sustenance for us. The apples must have been sweet for us to keep going back. think the REV Tymms knew it , if caught a we got a sermon on the right and wrongs of life. I can also remember the extension being built pre war.
