  1. I was delighted to find this page. I too was baptised in this parish church, only in 1944. I suppose then that Leslie Nelson also baptised me. Sadly I dont have any certificate that I know of. But it sure was nice to see what mine would have looked like. I do however know who my sponsers were. My Mothers brother, and his wife.

  2. The omission of sponsors” names on the certificate does not necessarily mean that you did not have any. The signatory and almost defintely the clergyman who baptised you was Leslie Nelson who was curate at Stockton Parish Church at that time. It is also possible, or even most likely, that several infants were baptised during this service and that it was probably on a Sunday afternoon. Attended by parents, sponsors/godparents and relatives and friends. So perhaps it was left to the parents to fill in the names? I do not know the answer to that one though. Did you go on to confirmation?

  3. I WAS BAPTIZED IN THE STOCKTON PARISH CHURCH AND HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED WHY I DONT HAVE ANY SPONSORS – MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR. MY PARENTS WERE MARRIED HERE AND ALSO HAD THEIR FUNERAL SERVICES HERE. I”M HAPPY TO SEE THE CHURCH IS GETTING SOME RESTORATION.
