Thank you for this website and this photo. I am the new senior minister at ‘The Tab’ and am grateful to have seen what the former place looked like. We had our 10-year anniversary celebration of the present building (Riverside, on The Square) in September of this year.
Unfortunately the Tabernacle and the Co-op are two more buildings confined to Stockton’s history. Even more sad when you consider that the Wellington Square development which now stands on this site, has a good proportion of its shops empty! Was it really worth it!
Dr Bill Davies. Although the old Tabernacle in Wellington Street is no longer due to redevelopment. A new Tabernacle was built down by the river to replace it. I also used to attend the Tab but later dates than yourself ie from about 1958 to 1963 when I left Stockton.
YES IT WAS OPPOSITE THE OLD CO-OP BUILDING. IT WAS A MAGNIFICENT BUILDING HOW SAD IT WAS REPLACED BY LIDL SUPERMARKET. FAR TOO MANY OLD BUILDING ARE DEMOLISHED ON TEESSIDE.
Yes, I enjoyed many good and blessed times there in 1985 and 1986

Does anyone know where I can find the archives of the Old Tabernacle? Date approx. 1890.

I remember the Tabernacle well. I enjoyed many youth for Christ services there in years 1946-1951. Sad to think it has gone.
