By 1965 there were only a few coal trains a day at most on the line from Redmarshall South Junction – just behind the engine – through Thorpe Thewles and Wynyard to Wellfield.This line closed in 1966 and later became the Castle Eden Walkway. The line from Bowesfield Junction through Hartburn to Redmarshall South and West Junctions, where it joined the line from Norton Junction closed in 1967.
