Acklam Street and Portrack Street, Stockton, (near Hill Street East) were demolished in 1958. I was told that those streets were 110 years old, so built in 1848 or thereabouts. Does anyone know the actual history of the Portrack area and the streets mentioned here?
COULD THIS STREET BE PORTRACK STREET OR ACKLAM STREET? IT IS TOO CLOSE TO THE MALLABLE FOR IT TO BE MAJOR STREET.
Looks like the Malleable Ironworks Portrack IN THE BACKGROUND. The party could be Silver Jubilee Geo V 1935 or GeoV1 Coronation 1937 the street looks near the Malleable ie further down than Major Street
I have no idea about this picture it looks to be a street party in celebration of a Coronation all I know is my Gran and Grandad lived in Major Street between the wars so perhaps the buildings behind may give a clue to someone if it was that area. There also appears to be a church steeple behind (could that be the original St James Church in Portrack) which was in that area.
