Stockton Cricket Team c1850

t9951This photograph shows the famous cricket team of Stockton c1850.

Note the fabulous stovepipe hats. The Umpire, Tommy Marshall, can be seen wearing his white hat at a jaunty angle which denotes a winning side. If he wore it straight the team had lost the game. From left to right – Percy Dyke, T. Crosby, J. Ayre, T. Dyke, Jon Dodds, T. Darnton, Jon Joy, T. Garbutt, Prince Stockdale, Dr Richards-Beaver, TW Hornby, T. Robinson, W. Holton, Tommy Marshall, N. Darnton, O. Hind.

  1. John Ayre is a relative of mine and I already have this photo. I would be very interested to know how you fit in to the Ayre family tree and would love to hear from you. I’m sure the Picture Stockton folk would be glad to give you my e-mail address .

  2. This photo will be of interest to any of the relatives of the Hind and Ayre family of Smith Street in central Stockton, myself included – looks like two of these guys are on my family tree.
