  1. Thanks for that Julie,it’s scary how time clouds the memory banks. I’ve made that many withdrawals from mine over too many years ,I guess it’s empty now. Have you or any of the other Newham Grange former pupils who contribute to Picture Stockton know if they are still living in North Cowton? (near Northallerton) Thanks for the help and future contributions. Alan.

  2. Bob, did you know of a pupil at William Newton School called Sheila Atkinson. She would be 15 in 1953 or 1954. Dark hair and worked in Peters furniture store in Dovecote Street, eventually taking the store over, she and her husband were friends of mine in Trinity Youth club. ( Raymond Yellow) They were a lovely couple but sadly I have not seen them since 1958. I was returning up from Kings Cross off leave and they were on the same train. Ray was in the Artillery and I was Pay Corps.03/04/2012 14:38:21

  3. 3rd row from the front and on the right end is Jean Jones, a redhead who lived in Eamont Road. The 3rd row from the front 2nd left girl could be Pat Harkness. 02/04/2012 19:12:23

  4. Hello Shirley, it was nice to read your story about schoolmates 60 years ago. It was my son John who sent the original photograph. I think you are a little mixed up with the names, understandable after 60 years. I think Joyce Gray is myself sitting next to the teacher Mrs Snyman who was from South Africa and took us for Science. I still keep in touch with Doreen Todd, Enid Harland and Joan Clark. Stockton Pictures may with my permission give you my email address and I could possibly name many other girls.

  5. It was my younger sister Pam Cordukes (m. Wallace) who drew my attention to the above photograph. This was the year above my own during the period I attended the school (1949-’52) I can name only a few of those present, these are; Third Row from Front: 6th (from left) Enid Harland /7th Violet Hutchinson. Second Row from front: 1st (on left ) Joyce Roberts/ Last on row Maureen Rawlinson. Front Row: 8th (from left) Joyce Grey ?. Violet Hutchinson was a special friend of mine and Joyce Roberts (m. Wilkes) worked with myself at Marks & Spencer in the High St for some 9 years during our late teens. Maureen Rawlinson, I recall as having a very good singing voice and after marriage to John Blenkinsop, I believe moved to the south-coast where they ran an hotel. Enid Harland’s father had the shoe-repair, or ‘cobblers’, business in Norton High St where, I’m pleased to find, is still continuing after all these years. I recognise many other ‘faces’ but after all this time (nearly 60 years) my memory is not what it was – laughs!31/03/2012 14:25:09

  6. I would love to hear from any of my classmates in this photograph. I now live in Canada and remember all the faces on this picture.
