Anthony Mitchell……I was in the first GCE class at ‘The South’. We sat the exam in 1958. Only 15 of us. 13 boys and 2 girls. We were all made prefects. It was a great experience. All of our teachers were so helpful, they felt as we did, it was a great adventure. Mr.Martendale, the headmaster, took us for maths. I live in Holland now with my family. Loved that school…………………….
Really pleased to see these photos. I’m actually on 2 photos. The picture of 1958 & 1960..
Joyce McCabe, any chance you are married to a David McCabe or husband related to David McCabe, we worked together at J Downings iron foundry all through 60s.
Derek.
Would anyone be interested in an informal recorded conversation over a coffee about their experience at Billingham South school? Currently researching the school as it moves closer towards its 100th birthday. Interested in how the school, teaching, curriculum, discipline and life chances of its pupils has changed over time. Also interested in any photos I could have via email. Many thanks
