  1. A glance at the Northern Echo will confirm that Dressers, Darlington dated from Victorian times and although the link with the Dresser family fizzled out in the 1950s, the shop in Darlington continued to develop and branched out to Stockton only in 1971. This page will now be swamped with recollections of who occupied the Dovecot Street site before Dressers appeared! Great site, keep up the good work Picture Stockton Team!

  2. Dressers had a shop in Darlington too I seem to remember. In the Stockton shop was a great variety of stationery on the ground floor, i.e. pencils, pens, erasers, paper pads, cash books, greetings cards. The second floor housed fine china and crockery/ornaments and on the top floor was a great selection of books with a fine children’s section full of puffin and ladybird books. A fine store.
