  1. Could anybody supply a photo of Stockton boys team for 1959/60. This team played East London boys in the semi final of the English schools trophy

  2. David( Butcher)Brown who lived in the butchers shop at the junction of Allison Street & Hume Street appears to be a reserve in this photo, must of been a year younger than the rest like Donny Heath, but both of them played in the very good Stockton Boys team of 1959.

  3. Dennis Clarke played in the 1968 F.A.Cup Final, he had the distinction of being the first substitute to be used in an F.A.Cup Final for West Bromwich Albion against Everton, when he replaced the injured John Kaye. Clarke also played for Huddersfield Town & Birmingham City – he and Donny Heath both got winners medals in their respective finals.

  4. We have a photo of the Stockton Schoolboys team that reached the English Schools Tropy semi-finals in 1959 (my husband is in it – David Payne). I will submit it to the site.

  5. Has anyone got a photo of the Stockton Schoolboys team that reached the English Schools Trophy semi-final in 1959. Don Heath & Dennis Clarke as mentioned above both played in the Football League Cup-Finals at Wembley were former Newham Grange School players.

  6. Those were the good old days. I remember the semi-final of the English schools trophy, there was something like 15,000 people there. I was lucky enough to become a pro footballer along with Dennis Thwaites, John Pickering and Dave Butler. Played against Dennis a few times when he was at Birmingham. Recentley had a chat with Dennis Clarke who lives in Spain. He played in the League Cup Final the year before I played in it against Arsenal. I have really enjoyed all the memories this site has brought back.

  7. Donny Heath in the photo was all fixed up to go to Blackpool FC when he left school, after playing in a good Stockton Boys Team, but Middlesbrough came in at the last minute to sign him. Much to the relief of his mother Olga,
she wasn’t losing her son who would have to live in digs at Blackpool. Donny is the uncle of Lee Turnbull who also played for Middlesbrough.

  8. My husband is David Payne (nickname Louis)? Robert Atkinson.
who played for the team Anon mentions! He remembers you Brian Winn!

  9. To whoever posted the comment on the 05/02/09 you are correct. I had played all the games up till leaving school and was asked to stop on at school whilst we were still in the cup. But, the problem was I got a job and had to start work immediately, if not I would have lost it. I was invited to be a guest at the semi-final match and in my mind I kicked every ball during that match. I felt the disappointment as much as the players on the pitch, because I was sure we would get to the final and win the cup.

  10. You did indeed play in the same Stockton Boys team as Donny Heath, Brian, but unfortunately you left school at the Christmas & were not allowed to play the rest of the season. The team finally got beaten by East London Boys who had a player Ray Whitaker(Arsenal)who shared the England Schoolboy”s outside left position with Stockton”s Dennis Thwaites(Birmingham City). The Stockton team was as follows; Kenny Thomas(Newham Grange), David Brown(Richard Hind), Joe Whitfield(St Patricks), David Walker(St Cuthberts), John Pickering(Arthur Head), Davvy Butler(The Dene, )Donny Heath(Newham Grange), Louis Payne(Robert Atkinson), Chippy Caldwell(Oxbridge), Geoff Street(Frederick Nattress), Dennis Thwaites(Holy Trinity). This team played in front of very large crowds at the Victoria Ground which would have been very intimidating for their opponents.

  11. The team Tony Jackson beat was Bailey Steet, Stockton the score was 3-1. I played in that game I also was one year younger than the rest, and also played in the same Stockton boys team as Don heath

  12. You were fortunate to get a medal as a memento for winning the football, Alan. Whilst at Newtown I won the 440yds in the Stockton Junior Schools Atheletic Championships (Town Sports) at the Victoria Ground in the Coronation Year 1953 & got a Biro pen. We received plaques for winning in the senior schools.

  13. The teacher on the right as we look is indeed James Allen, he was my headmaster at Harrow Gate junior school from the school opening in 1963. In fact I believe he retired from the school sometime in the 1980″s. He is featured on some Harrow Gate school photos elswhere on this site. He will have been aged aroud 30 on this photo, he passed away in January 2008 aged 83.

  14. This was the team that won the N.Wynn Cup in the 1954/5 season. Don Heath was a year younger than the rest of us. The cup final I think was against Bailey Street, Thornaby. The first match was drawn at Tilery Road Recreation Ground and we won the replay. Not sure where, probably in Thornaby somewhere. During that season the most memorable match for me was beating Freddy Nats 11 (eleven) – 0. Don Heath scored 10 and I scored the other from the half-way line kicking with the wind on a rock hard pitch all along the ground through their goalie”s legs. Happy days!

  15. The teacher back-row 2nd right is Mr Allan & the player on the right is David Brown who went on to Richard Hind & played right back in a good Stockton Boys team alongside Donny Heath(ex Norwich City & Swindon Town player).

  16. Are these medals still awarded? I can name most of the team but can anyone fill in the blanks? Back Row L-R: George Boddie, Mr Knowles, Alan Callender, Donald Heath, John Smith, Peter Turner, Brain Shaw, Teacher?, ? Seated: Craig Stephenson, Tony Jackson, Tommy Wing, Barry Hutchcraft, David Leighton.
