  1. Derrick Brown on the front row second from left became Mayor of Thornaby and is now serving as Councilor of Thornaby and is doing very well for himself. Love you always Bro.

  2. I saw this picture and could have sworn the boy on the front row second from the right as you look at the picture is my dad so I showed him and even he is not sure. My Dad is Geoff Wilson .

  3. Just come across this picture and I was surprised to see a picture of my classmates. I am bottom right Derek Smith. Bottom row: ?, Derrick Brown, Ray Kilvington, Stuart Blakey, Laurence Hamilton, Maurice Robinson, ?, Gordon King, Derek Smith.
… Missed out David Dinsdale, 3rd left.

  4. I have just found this picture once again, what a great reminder of great school days. I’m looking at the picture trying to fill in some gaps… I think the the lad 2nd in on the back row is Peter Hayes and the lad 4th in on the back row is Karl Hamleton, if my memory serve me right we had two Karl Hamletons the other one is seated to left of Mr Kitchen who went on to teach at another school in the town when Bailey Street closed.

    • Hello Pat ..do you have a copy of the picture please? as it no longer seems to be here!

      • Hi Ian , not sure which Hamilton your looking for, I’m trying to find Karl ( 4th on the left )or his brother Lawrence, I sailed with the two of them many years ago and as I’m in the area I’d like to catch up with them, any info would be appreciated. • hiya Pat. I think you were in the same class as my sister, Pauline Bullas. I have a class photograph with you on it (if it’s you) also Ann Fothergill and Sheila Hayes. I can’t remember the names of the other girls.

      • Hiya Joan just seen this page don’t know if you will see this but its Pauline Crapper your cousin from Rotherham just want to say hello hope you are keeping well x

  5. I am referring to the same Alan Kitching who appears in the Richard Hind football team photos. He was a very good high jumper which Ken refers to and is now in New Zealand as ‘No name supplied’ referred to. I am in no way disagreeing with Ken, only stating facts as I see it, I certainly appreciate the contribution Ken makes to this site.

  6. I think that Anon and Ken Sawyer are talking of different Alan Kitchings. I am with Ken in thinking that this is the Alan Kitching in the photo that was at RH when I was there from 1949-53. When I started he would have been in the 4th year which would make him 3 years older than me. The Alan Kitching that Anon mentions who was in the Synthonia Juniors in 1960 would not be the same AK as we knew because in 1960 he wouild be 27-28ish.

  7. Alan Kitching who went to Richard Hind School & was good at sport, played in goal for Billingham Synthonia Juniors in 1960 when they beat Darlington F.C. Juniors in one of the Durham F.A. junior cup finals at Central Avenue, Billingham.

  8. Thank you for the information about Alan Kitching. If you get any contact please send the greetings of a former teacher!

  9. Alan Kitching was a good friend of mine and actually went to work at I.C.I. as an electrician on leaving school. He now lives in New Zealand.

  10. The teacher in the photo, Ken, is not the Alan Kitching who you taught at Richard Hind, Alan was about 6’3″ and did not leave school till 1958.

  11. The teacher’s name was actually Alan Kitching. I taught him at Richard Hind School and he appears on several Richard Hind teams in which he served as goalkeeper with the skill of being able to throw the ball to a winger, regarded as a bit sensational at that time. He was also a very good high jumper. So he had all round abilities which gained him entry into teacher training. I cannot remember which college.

  12. Morris(Mogga)Robinson was a well known footballer who played many years for Head Wrightsons and Portrack Social Club ,two top teams in the Saturday and Sunday Leagues.
