  1. That”s why the name Ian Devereux was somehow familiar! The Brian may well be Brian Sugden. He is on the photo, as are Paul Wesson and Norman Bainbridge. If you search for t9612 you will find a pic of a joint Richard Hind folk dance team. Some are on that photo.

  2. I started my folk dancing “career” at Richard Hind school taught by an RI teacher!! and then progressed to Elmwood from the mid to late fifties until the early sixties. One face in the picture is Brian ? on the left. He was a cobbler working at Timpsons on Yarm Lane. I sometimes wonder what finally happened to the group as until the mid sixties it was well supported.

  3. I stand or sit corrected, Ian Devereux, about Elmwood. Can only plead that my residential life in Stockton is 51+ years past and memory plays tricks. Somehow though your name is familiar. How long did you continue in folk and morris dancing and how long did it continue in Stockton? Clearly many young people had a lot of pleasure from it at that time. I will also confess to being on that picture!

  4. Just cant make out if that is me in the photo as I used to dance Folk and Morris round that time. However, the group used to meet at Elmwood Hartburn not Rimswell.

  5. This festival was directed by Wilf Ashman who was also well known as the caller at the then very popular Barn Dances at the Corporation Hall in West Row. The Stockton branch of EFDSS met on friday evenings at Rimswell, Hartburn. My late wife is one of the dancers on this photo.
