This was taken in 1966. I was the rider in blue going underneath the overpass. If you have photos Cliff I would love to see them. It has been a long time!
Alan Hicken – I fired off nearly a whole reel of film as the riders flashed by speeding down Hartburn Bank. The photos have never been seen apart from the three on the Picture Stockton website. That event was 40 years ago, and your request for more photos suddenly made the exercise seem worthwhile after all! Clear some space on your hard drive Alan and I`ll send you some more images off line.
I rode the 1966 Milk Race representing Canada. I am the rider in the pale blue jersey #43 going under the bridge. Don”t have any photos of the race, it would be great if there are any others out there.
I”m familiar with the bank, whereabouts was the bridge? It”s completely alien to me, being as I am 19, I never knew of it…
andrew mcguinness regarding the local lad that died. Iam not sure if the date is the correct date, but a lad from oxbridge called john smith was killed there. He was to celebrate his 17th birthday soon after that day. my sister was friends with his only sister and my parents took her on holiday with us to help her get over this. Like i said it may not be the same incident.
Andrew, we played at the brickie when we were kids in the 70s, and i remember the lad who drowned there
Hi; I didn”t recognise the bridge in the picture was demolished around the mid-to-late 70s I believe, just around the corner was the “brickie” – an old quarry that had been flooded with water-a favourite place to play in the summer when I was around 10 yrs old in “76. I have a vague memory of a local 16 year old lad who tragically drowned in the water around 1976,does anyone else remember this tragedy? Also at the brickie was a homemade “scrambling” track for bikes and a smaller pool where we used to go “frogging” . I am guessing very little has changed from that time although I haven”t been there since around 1990.
The chase Car is a Ford Cosair, the predecessor to the Cortina, remember the advert for it? “Corsair has Flair”
