  1. I’d like to see the part of the Terrace that shows this church – it runs east from Five Lamps as shown in another picture on this site (The Five Lamps, Mandale Road, Thornaby. c1960) which shows a branch of Gallons: was this number 4?

  2. To my surprise, the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Stafford Place is still there. No longer a church, it is now the premises of a firm of car gearbox specialists and is surrounded by a sea of new houses. There was another Wesleyan Methodist church in Cleveland Terrace, but where was that?

  3. Are there any pictures of Swarthmore Terrace anywhere? My grandfather, Albert Ellis, was manager of the Gallons branch at no. 4 and I would love to see what the locality was like.

  4. There was a Wesleyan Methodist Church at Stafford Place, Thornaby. I recall that much as it had a cricket club in the 30’s to 50’s as then I read their scores in the Sporting Gazette!
Also recall something about there having been a Wesleyan Methodist Church at the later site of Thornaby Town Hall.
