Does anyone remember the lady with the monkey who lived in Park Terrace during the 50’s? I can’t recall her name but I remember my dad used to call at the house to collect money when he worked as an insurance agent for the Prudential. I don’t know whether she bred dogs or just had one that had recently had a litter but my dad got our dog, Blackie, from her when I was five years old. She used to have lorry drivers or train drivers staying there between their runs.
Margaret, did you have a brother Peter, if so he attended school with me at the Frederick Nattrass and we both went onto school at the Richard Hind. After leaving school we lost touch with each other. That was in 1953. I know that his father worked for the Pru.
In reply to Bob – Atkinson is my married name but my husband, Bert (Herbert) and family were from Norton and all attended the Freddie Nattrass school. He had three brothers- Billy, Raymond and Keith – all except my husband now sadly deceased. I think they may have had a cousin called Peter.
Margaret. The Peter Atkinson I knew lived in Norbury Road which is off Norton Avenue and leading into the estate. His father was a rep (collector) for the Pru. I know that Peters g/father then living at the continuation of Edward Street, Stockton. He was I believe a previous Mayor of the town or/as well an Alderman.
Checked with husband, Bob. He’s not very good on long lost family but nothing you said rings any bells. Sounds as though it might be another family.
Regarding Park Terrace, the Pauline you mentioned will have been my aunt Pauline Beckton who lived at number 13. After leaving Park Terrace she moved to Lawson Court off Hartington Rd. In November 1981 she was knocked down by a car in the High St whilst crossing the road. She didn’t quite get over the accident and died at home on the 9th January 1982 aged 85.
My uncle Charlie lives in Hardwick now, Allen. Do you remember Pauline who lived further down Park Terrace next to the Towns?
I do remember the Timberland shop on the corner of Park Terrace and Bridge Road and my Mum say’s there was a fairground on the same site, can’t say the exact year.
Down the alley-way, after the first house on the left, was a fish & chip shop and I remember the tea-pot sign outside. My Mum knows a lot about this area.
GREAT TO SEE THIS PHOTO, I RENTED A FLAT IN THE FIRST HOUSE ,GROUND FLOOR WAS OCCUPIED BY A MRS ROUNDTREE, NEXT DOOR WAS SOME MORE RELATIVES CALLED ROUNDTREE, TO THE LEFT OF THE PHOTO THE BUILDING WAS PULLED DOWN AND THE DHSS OFFICE NOW STANDS. OVER THE ROAD FROM THE HOUSE I LIVED IN WAS THE METROPOLE HOTEL. THIS WAS IN 1965. I LIVED IN STOCKTON 68 YEARS AND NOW LIVE IN DERBYSHIRE. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN WHEN I VISIT STOCKTON HAS BEEN RUINED. DERBYSHIRE COUNTY BUILD NEW AROUND OLD AND DO NOT KNOCK DOWN HISTORY. Hi, my Mums maiden name was Rowntree, now Sheila Lathan and her family lived in Park Terrace, left to live in Norton around 1966. Her sisters were called Brenda; Joan; Eileen and her brothers were Alan; Alfie; Robert and Mark. My Mum is 82 now and very well. Shame all the old houses were demolished.
I’ll tell my mam about this. I can remember the house your mam lived in it was at the end of Park Terrace next to the park entrance. My mam lives in Hardwick.
This is my grandad… the first time I have seen this picture. I am Sam Jones, daughter of Dennis Jones whos father was Herbert Raymond Jones.
The daughter would probably been Violet. I know my uncle Herbert Jones was best mates with Charley Vickers.
My grandma and grandad Vickers lived next door to Mr Jones. My mother Dot was best mates with the daughter.
I was born next door (no 10) to the left, the one with the pram outside. My Gran and Grandad lived there, Vickers was the name.
