The person on the front row next to Jim McCurley is Bill Sturdy who worked in the Library & now lives in Dormanstown. The players on either side of me ie Peter Davies & George Angel unfortunately died several years ago. The player between Trevor Archer & Ian Cutter is Ken Russell (Analytical Section). Unfortunately Ian Cutter’s wife Sue (nee Appleton) died about 3 years ago. I worked with Trevor Archer in Phillips Petroleum labs until he retired.
Could it be Barry Hammond, 2 left front row.
Bob, Did he marry Pat Gorman?
Wouldn’t know.
Ian Cutter, unfortunately no longer with us, also played for Constantine College in the Middlesbrough and District league. The player identified as Cooper, not sure but his first name may have been Terry, played at one time for Whitby in the Northern league.
I think the player Cooper played for Wolviston in the Stockton and District League and the guy on the left front-row is the younger brother of Ann (Spammy) Archer of Stockton Swimming Club who played in the same Newham Grange School Hockey Team as Benny Brown’s late wife Marie Kennedy. You are right Jim,Ian Cutter did play for Constantine College, which was later Teesside Polytechnic but in the South Bank and District League.
Anon, the Cooper guy told me he played for Whitby Town, but whether he actually did or not I don’t know. He wasn’t a bad player however, a handy right half. Trevor Archer, who was from Norton, had a twin sister called Evelyn, who also worked at BTP. He was (hopefully still is!) related to Ann Robson, wife of Laurie, or Lol, Robson. My memory tells me she was also called Archer before marriage, but she was not Trevor’s sister, maybe a cousin. And of course I’m presuming that we are talking about the same Ann!
Trevor’s sister Ann is married to Peter Bowes & lives in Thornaby, Laurie Robson’s wife Ann’s maiden name was Powell they are cousins, Trevor had a older sister called Jean who I think you are getting mixed up with.
Anon, I know Trevor had a twin sister called Evelyn because the three of us worked at BTP’s Central Labs and we used to walk to the bus together. You are right that Ann Robson’s maiden name was Powell. She has a brother called Derek who worked at Power Gas and then moved to Pittsburg where he settled and married a German woman. I had dinner with Derek one night in Pittsburg many years ago. I met Ann and Laurie Robson for lunch last year when I visited Stockton, at the Witherspoon’s pub on Norton Road. Laurie had a stroke a few years ago but other than that they were in good shape.
Ian Cutter played for a good St Marys College team that were in the South Bank League & Brian Preston played for the Telstar in the Teesborough League.
Back l to r: Peter Davies, Jeff Himsworth, George Angel, Derek Swain, Brian Preston, Cooper.
Front l to r: Trevor Archer, don’t know, Ian Cutter, don’t know, Jim McCurley.
It looks like Trevor Archer on the left front-row, can Jim McCurley name the rest.
