Burning bus on Redhill Road

These dramatic photographs were taken by John Chesney and show a bus on fire on Redhill Road, opposite Roseworth shops. The spire of St Chads church can just be seen above the bus-stop in the second image. Courtesy of Joyce Chesney.

  1. I was on this fire so one of them is me me lol not much left of the bus it was well alight when we got there, all in a days work though.

  2. This picture can be traced to a few days before November 25th 1972. The bus L410 (PDC110)is a former Middlesbrough Corporation Daimler Fleetline with Northern Counties bodywork. if you go to flick.r and type in ‘wood’s libary’ you will see a picture of this (and other Teesside buses)at Stockton Depot after it had been recovered. The damage was quite severe and the bus was subsequently scrapped. The early Middlesbrough Fleetlines were prone to catching fire.
The fire engine is of interest also. It is one of four Dennis F108’s delivered to Teesside Fire Brigade in 1972.This one (FXG35K)was based at Stockton (South view Norton)and would have been almost new at the time of the picture. These are very interesting pictures, and it would be wonderful to get hard copies of them if that is possible?

  3. John, could you put a year on this event? I remember the old fashioned bus shelter thats no longer there on the second photo.
