Thanks for adding these great photos. My uncle, Arthur Dinsdale, served two seasons on one of Salveson’s whalers in the Antarctic in the late 1940s. When he found out about the seagoing condition of the Southern Actor he contacted the museum in Norway and suggested that they might like to bring the boat over to Middlesbrough for a visit as it had been built at Smith’s Dock. But the museum declined the suggestion. They feared that the number of anti-whaling protestors might outweigh the number of marine enthusiasts!
