My maternal family history contains census information from the 1800’s on the Irvine family who were brickmakers in Cowpen, one of them was actually born in the cottage at the Brickworks. This must be THE brickworks that the Irvines had! Lovely to see a picture of it! Thank you. If anyone has any more information I’d love to hear it!
Hi Carole….
My name is David Irwin originally from the NE of England, now living in NZ
have been researching my roots and have some info and records relating to
the family who were brick and tile makers in Cowpen Bewley, which you are more than welcome to share
Warm Regard David
David Irwin, are you my nephew?
There was a brickworks on this site from the 1850`s. In the early 1900`s G & WH Carter took over the company. They remained in business till the late 1950`s. After this I believe it was a mushroom farm for a short period.
This is for anyone who visits the wonderful woodland park that Stockton borough council have created at Billingham and shows just what people can do in transforming things.
