  1. Can’t believe this is now a Uni. I lived on Bridge Road, next to Victoria Bridge, opposite the old railway ticket house. The place used to be Smith’s Woodyard before the demolished it to make way for a shopping area. I used to be able to wander down the woodyard to the edge of Tees then and look at the area where the Uni now is.

The woodyard would get flooded every now and then during extra high tides. There used to be a pub on Bridge Road, close to the bridge…but can’t remember its name (The Teesider?)…

We used to go there often as we only lived two doors down from it…and Mam and Dad were often in the pub.

At the time the areas where the Uni is now, was nothing but old buildings (from before the War). There was still ammunition from the War and concrete gun boxes there…as I used to play there as a young kid.
