  1. Did you know a David Walton 1945-1999 he might have been a first year 1956/7 as he was born in August 1945?

  2. Sorry Brian, it was Ken. I wonder whatever happened to him. I haven’t seen him since the mid 60’s. I think he lived around Castlereagh Road.

  3. I wonder if Eric is referring to Ken rather than a Kevin Aspinall? Ken was my cohort: a 1958 (born late 46 or 47) entry to Grangefied.

  4. Barry Weatherill, Kevin Aspinall, Mick and I used to catch the bus every morning to school from Brown’s Bridge. I’m quite a bit younger than them though. I’m pretty certain Barry and Mick were in the same year at Strangefields.
Mick & Fran used to drink now and then in the Knights Club when I played there with the band.

  5. I have doubts about the Michael Connell in the photo being the same Mick,he lived in Dundas Street as a boy & was the younger brother of Tid Connell who went to Richard Hind, they were both paper boys at Creasy Newsagents on Durham Road.Mick was a bricklayer & Fran got his idea from Mick working abroad.

  6. A few more names: Back row end left (I think) is Geoff Lupton and end right is (definitely) John Lowe. Middle row 4th left is Bernard Dawson. Front row third left is Robert Harbron, with a boy whose name I believe was Burns on his right.
Mr Jackson as well as being Form Master also taught us History. I remember him as being firm but fair. I think he left the school shortly after as we then had Mr Hefford through to the end of 4th year. He was a superb teacher of history.
As Allan Callender quite rightly says, most of these ‘boys’ are now receiving the state pension – but where are they now? I am in Glasgow.

    (Writer is in Glasgow.)

  8. Eric is right in what he says about Michael Connell. “Mick” was a bit of a character and i got to know him through drinking in the Sun Inn, sadly Mick succumbed to cancer a number of years ago

  9. Wasn’t Michael Connell the guy who gave Fran Roddam the ideas for Auf Wiedersehen ?
Most of these guys were my prefects when I started Grangefield in the early 60’s.
In fact Graham Prest was my next door neighbour for many years when I lived in Norton.

  10. Roy Malleby taught at Harrowgate junior school in the 60’s & 70’s. I was in his form in 1968/9 (see ref t9295) he was a great teacher and I believe still lives in the stockton area.

  11. I remember your family well, Frank. My Mum was very fond of them and, I think, the brother she taught was Ronald.

  12. I’m very sorry to hear that, Margaret. John was in the 96th Entry at Halton and graduated in 1963. My Dad and I went down Victoria Street to have a chat about what to expect when I joined the 105th exactly three years later. Your Mam was my younger brother’s teacher at St Johns.

  13. The boy 3rd from right in the middle row is my brother John Atkinson. He joind the RAF in 1960. Sadly, John died in February of this year.

  14. Back Row: (end left) ? Bell?, Graham Prest, John Southern, Harry Maloney,Angus Pearson, Ian Midgly, John K Smith, Michael Wilson, ??. 2nd to Back Row: (end left), Ian Bell, Alan Callender,??, ??, David Shaw,Roger Atkinson, Roy Malleby, Garth Flack,Colin Mustard, Austin Cartwright, ? Atkinson, Bob Moore, David Jones. Front Row: Tony Johnstone, ??, ??, BarryWeatherall, David Williams, Form Master (History),Tony Jackson, Raymond Kell, Michael Connell, Ian Russell, Barry Melton,. Most of these boys will be accepting OAP payments, but where are they now. Can anyone provide the missing names, or indeed correct my memory?
