A series of photographs relating to the unveiling and dedication of the Wolviston War Memorial on 26 February 1921 commemorating the deaths of those soldiers from the village who were killed in the First World War. I was surprised to come upon this item and was about to comment that I grew up with the grandson of one of those named… then I became aware of who had submitted the pictures. Keith, it’s been half a century, and I’d love to hear from you. What struck me then, and more so now, is that there were so many names on that memorial. Wolviston was a hamlet when we rode our bikes to Scouts; a pub, Berry’s butchery and Duncan Radburn’s grocery shop. In 1914, it had to be minuscule. The loss of a score of young men must have been crippling to that community.
