Stockton Secondary Modern c1930

This is an old photo showing my mother’s class at Stockton Secondary School (Nelson Terrace) in about 1930. I’m afraid I don’t have any names expect for my Mum (Ida Armstrong, as she was then), who is sitting on the front row, at the extreme right, next to their PT teacher.

  1. The correct title should be Stockton Secondary School. It was not a Secondary Modern School. The Nelson Terrace Schools were selective entry Grammar Schools.

    • Ken, As a former pupil of the old Secondary School in Nelson Terrace I welcome your correction and your description of selective entry Grammar Schools’. I remember the Sawyer brothers, all of whom went to that other Grammar school on Norton Road . Allan Ayre

      • I’m trying to find people who have previously been interested in the property in Smith Street. I think you could be the person who wrote a piece in ‘Have Your Say’ last year – if not I do apologise. But I am the joint owner of the above property.
