  1. Is this the school which was in Cowpen Village? If so, my gran attended there. She lived at 3 Rose Cottage (there was a row of Rose Cottages which are now demolished and used to be in the field directly across from the Cowpen Lane entrance). Her Father and uncles worked at the Brick Works (one of them was born in the Cottage at Brickworks) and her aunt was the proprietor at the 3 Horse Shoes! If anyone else has any history of the school and/or village I would love to hear it. My grans family name was Irwin.

    • Have just picked your message up. After much searching I have found my great great grandad and his family (including my great grandad) living at number 61, but no road title, in the 1881 census. The house is on the same street as the Three Horse Shoes. Their surname is Stott. My great grandad, George, is aged 7 and is down as a “scholar”. Next door at number 60 lives a William Irwin!
