Photographs taken in 1973 of Stanley Street, Stockton just before it was demolished. I lived the the house, 3rd from the right. Note the beautiful cobbles that you can see in both photographs.

  1. I was born in 10 Stanley Street at 3:30am lived there with my mum and dad, Ken and Diane and my sister Linda, my mates were Peter Culsar, John Kemp. I also remember a Raymond Barker we left for Scotland just before it was demolished .

  2. My gran lived in Stanley Street at the end near the wall to Bute Street (name Mrs Davies and opposite was Elsie Pratt and Mrs Melville. Does anyone remember her.

  3. According to my marriage certificate, in November 1969 I was living in Stanley Street.
But if the truth be told, it was the address of a relative that was used to enable me to get married at the parish church! As for the discussion about the cobbles, they look like cobbles on the road, with the back lane covered in those bluey-grey slag bricks.

  4. I can’t believe there are pics of this. I lived in number 20 Stanley from 1959 to 1969 (left aged 11). Happy memories! The house on the right used to be occupied by my then ‘best mate’ Paul Callender and I remember an elderly ‘Mr Woods’ living opposite – maybe the same one you lived in Bill. Thoughts flooding back of times spent in that back alley. Any more pics???????

    • Hi Brian
Peter Watson here I lived in Stanley Street from 1962 to 1970 when we moved to Hardwick Estate, Paul was also my friend. I lived in the 2nd house from the end of the street on the left near the big wall. Bute street was on the other side, where we used to chase animals that escaped from the slaughter house.

      • Can’t believe they knocked these down, they were some of the better terraces. Did they destroy Bute Street as well? Didn’t Graham Craggs (Rastuss) live here somewhere?

      • Hi Peter, yes I remember you!!! You me and Paul used to hang out a lot. We moved to Roseworth in 1969. Compulsory purchase. I remember the wall near your house. Wonder what happened to Paul? I do recall his sister died in either a car or bike accident when she was only 16 – Christine. Very sad

  5. Is the building on the right one that was replaced by Whitelocks cheese factors, whose circular wooden boxes were a constant source of firewood? In which case you probably lived oposite my family at number 22. Many happy hours spent playing in this street (strictly speaking, were they not ‘sets’ rather than natural cobbles?), punctuated by cries of ‘stay away from the grate, you’ll catch diphtheria!.

  6. Back again! I’ve done this before……has anyone got photo/s of GLADSTONE STREET,STOCKTON. It’s where my Dad was born and raised thro the 20s/30s.
On a recent visit to the area I was told that I was in the wrong street …. Stockton, NOT, Thornaby!! No wonder the even side only went to no.20! A shame, as I’d not seen it for over 40yrs, and my son will never see the house where his Grandad lived. Oh,by the way,it was no.40, GLADSTONE STREET,thanks,
    Larry Duncan,Gloucester.
