  1. I used to walk there (under that bridge)…the riverbank was covered in deep, tick black/grey mud. We lived maybe 200 metres from the Victoria Bridge on in the old Smiths Woodyard (literally). They had a Victorian building that was used as an office for the woodyard, and our family lived in there for years. My dad used to look after the office and woodyard after hours.

    I’m now in Victoria, Australia where there are still some Victorian age bridges…some of which were built in England and shipped over to Australia, or there steel was made in Middlesbrough/Southbank Steelworks and shipped over or the bridge components were made in the North (Newcastle, Stockton on Tees) and erected in Australia.
