  1. A mixed parcels train, typical of the period, consisting of a BR gangwayed brake (BG) an LNER luggage or pigeon van (BG or BGP) a couple of short wheelbase goods vans and what looks like an LMS six wheeled brake (Stove R). The V3 tank loco was part of Gateshead’s allocation in 1959.

  2. Gresley V3 tank engine No 67689 on what is probably train 3G15 the mid- morning Middlesbrough -Sunderland -(Newcastle) parcels. The engine will have come south earlier on an early morning train from Newcastle and is now returning. This train was steam hauled into 1964 and this class of engine were regular performers on the Middlesbrough -Newcastle expresses prior to dieselisation of the service in November 1955. No. 67689 was withdrawn for scrapping in late 1962, while the last survivors of this class of 92 engines were withdrawn in autumn,1964.
