I worked for the Meadow Dairy for 10 years at the age of 16 I was a shop Manager I worked in all the shops in the Durham area last shop was Consett this picture of the entrance was in every shop my friend has just today sent me a picture of one of the branches I worked in, this is still there at Crook in Durham

  2. There was also a Meadow Dairy on Mandale Road in Thornaby. The corner section of the window always seemed to be full of eggs piled up on top of each other. On the counter they had a light-box where they placed the eggs to check that they were not rotten.

    • I am almost certain that the girl second from the left was called Peggy Gordon, who lived next door to my Grandma on Durham Road, stockton.

  3. The notices in the shop windows refer to the sale of “Points Goods”. This shows that the photo was taken during, or immediately after WW II, when food was rationed. You could only buy certain goods if you had enough “points” in your ration book.
