We believe this photograph to be in the Thornaby area during the early 1900s. Maybe someone recognises the buildings and can help?
I could not imagine this picture is anywhere in Thornaby, there were no roads off Mandale Road for trams to go. As far as I know from pictures and records seen the tram route went along Mandale Road down Brewery Bank and on to Newport Road.
This picture is taken on Stockton Street in Hartlepool looking south. The buildings on the left behind the tram are still existing on the corner of Church Steet and the building to the right with the clock tower (Binns old store) is still existing on the corner of Victoria Road. In the distance can be seen Park Tower which was on the old Coop building now turned into flats. Everything else has changed with a dual carriageway passing through here now but it is possible to use Google ‘Street View’ to see how this view has changed today!
