A view of a very quiet Stockton High Street. Shops known to many can be seen such as Stead and Simpsons, Blackett, H Samuels and Hepworths. Photographs taken c1950/1960s.
This probably has to be a Sunday morning or a bomb scare… cars in the view are a Renault Dauphine-Austin A55 van-A40 Farina and I’ll stab at a A30/35. This is very much roundabout my era and catching the bus on the left to Hartburn and not a waffic trawden in sight!!
Does anyone have a picture of Maxwells corner before it was renamed? I believe it had an Elephant on top of the building and was known as the Elephant Store. Any info or pictures/sketches much appreciated
